Honeybee on top of zinnia Beltane Ranch Glen Ellen, CA Crescent and buckeye butterflies on summer zinnias and CA poppy

Honeybee on top of zinnia flower—note collection of bright orange pollen; Beltane Ranch, Glen Ellen, CA

The front garden at Beltane Ranch in Glen Ellen, CA, where I’ve gardened for 19 years

Crescent (left) and buckeye (right) butterflies on summer zinnias and California poppy. These poppies are perennial and will re-flower late into summer when cut back after initial spring flowering. The buckeye is California’s state butterfly.

Gardening
“By the time one is eighty, it is said, there is no longer a tug of war in the garden with the May flowers hauling like mad against the claims of the other months. All is in balance and all is serene. The gardener is usually dead, of course.” – Henry Mitchell, The Essential Earthman, 1981

Whether it is for the sale of a property, a fresh eye toward design, or a renovation/invigoration, detailing can make a garden really sing. Let us help you.

Anise swallowtail (Papilio zelicaon) larva on garden fennel; Cotati, CA

Oriental poppies (Papaver orientale) will fade in summer heat, but are glorious in spring.
